The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely application of customer payments, requiring a solid understanding of the full Accounts Receivable (AR) cycle. This role supports the cash application process for payments received from Signode customers across various contracts. Success in this position depends on strong knowledge of company products, internal processes, and business relationships to ensure the integrity of AR records and to foster effective customer communication.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily collection calls to customers and sales representatives to resolve outstanding balances

  • Manage a steady volume of inbound and outbound collection calls for an assigned portfolio, as well as accounts from the general collections queue

  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and senior-level customer contacts

  • Reconcile account activity for a higher-profile portfolio, including National Accounts and Specialty Accounts

  • Collaborate with Sales Representatives and Sales Managers to identify and resolve issues such as blocked orders, short payments, shipping discrepancies, and tax concerns

  • Generate and work through aging reports and other AR-related reports (e.g., unapplied cash, short pays, aged items, credits) to resolve open items

  • Escalate unresolved accounts and provide regular updates to departmental leadership

  • Perform account reconciliations, including processing offsets, write-offs, and ensuring correct payment applications by referencing check copies and addressing pricing or freight issues

  • Assess and monitor customer credit risk, assigning appropriate credit limits within established guidelines

  • Evaluate financial data, including D&B reports, financial statements, and trade/bank references, to support credit decisions

  • Request additional credit information and manage ongoing credit exposure for assigned accounts
